OUR VISION

 

Born To Be Light, Inc was founded in 2010 in Chicago, IL.  It is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting nonviolence, self-accountability, and community change.  Starting with Chicago, we are creating an international movement of people who will take a pledge to be the change in their community.
 


We wear a special solidarity glow-in-the-dark BTBL wristband to signify our commitment to nonviolence, self-control, self-accountability, and being the difference with acts of kindness in our homes and community.

In 2022, we expanded the vision!

​

History has taught us that just asking the children to take the pledge of nonviolence is not enough. To help the child, we must embrace the issues of the entire family. Working with the school counselors, city and state departments, and community groups, we are addressing issues that are causing acts of desperation, depression, and survival, like food, housing, and lack of jobs.  If help is available, we want to help highlight the location and connect the dots to help support needy families.

BTBL CREATING A "LIGHT NETWORK"

 

We are inviting organizations to join the fight against violence by having their group take the pledge of peace.  We then ask them to partner with us by offering their existing resources to those in their community.  We post their names, a link to their website, and/or offer their contact information.

 

Every time an organization participates and shares BTBLs nonviolent peace bands, we show the world that we have the power to come together and be an example of peaceful coexistence. Why? There is strength in numbers. Together we can make a difference and create change!

THE GLOW-IN-THE-DARK WRISTBAND

 

The white, green-glowing wristband is a constant reminder that we were born with a light within us.  That light is the power to decide to do the right thing, every time.We pledge to be living examples of a peaceful and non-violent existence.

 

The ever-glowing white wristband encourages us to remember to start with ourselves first, using the power (light) that is always within us to help us make the right decision to stop the violence. We are part of the solution, not the problem.

 WE ARE the CHANGE.

 

As the bracelet shines, so should we, day and night, from light to light.

OUR GOAL

BTBL AIMS TO ADVERTISE AND MARKET PEACE

1)  We aim to share the peace pledge and the bands with schools, church groups, and community organizations, offering them the chance to plant the seed of light with the nonviolence and self-accountability message.

 

Schools and organization leaders create a special message that encourages self-accountability among youth and their families within their organization.  We supply the pledge bands, and the organization supplies the nonviolence and peace messages in their own way. Together we change our community one pledge at a time.

 

2) Advertise nonviolence as a product in our communities using billboards, TV and radio advertisements, concerts, movies, and documentaries. We are encouraging organizations to create events that open the conversation of taking responsibility for your own behavior. During the event, they administer the pledge and share the wristbands.

 

3)  Bring back respect for life in our homes, schools, and communities by keeping the conversation open.  The more we highlight what respect and disrespect are by highlighting them in real-time, the more change we will begin to see in the world.

 

We aim to flood the community with "THINK FIRST -- SEE IT-SAY IT" messages that will inspire peace and unity IN EVERY COMMUNITY!.

 

TO BUILD A GLOBAL LIGHT NETWORK BY PLANTING THE SEED OF LIGHT

 

  • To reach individuals "fed up" with crime in their communities and encourage them to get involved, from home to the streets, and help end the violence.

  • To reach parents who want safe communities and encourage them to start by being the light in their home.

  • To reach at-risk youth to encourage them to take accountability for their actions, and become examples of change in their communities.

  • To bring light to the power of one: "The man in the mirror."

  • To highlight individual opportunities to be the change in the community

  • To aggressively market the idea of "PEACE FIRST"  in our homes and community.

  • Shed light on the hidden faces killing our children and terrorizing our neighborhoods

  • Encourage family awareness/consciousness of what is happening in our own homes, with our own children.
